August Inspirations!
August 1st is the old Celtic festival of Lammas, which celebrated the first harvest and the fruitfulness of the mother. This was personified by the goddess Demeter in greek mythology. We can see the wheat being harvested now and the fruits beginning to ripen. I picked my first few blackberries yesterday and noticed the reddening apples, still small but full of their potential. In Italy, the ripe peaches are abundant on the trees and juicy to eat! The decorative offering from Bali (shown in the above right photo) honours the goddess and her fecundity and to ask for abundance.
An inner question at this time can be,
What can you put energy into – so as to ripen and bring to fruition something important to you?
When we channel the energy of the archetype of Demeter, the all giving mother goddess, we can all experience the joy of giving and creating but also the feelings of depletion or resentment that it can bring when over giving. Who gives her thanks nowadays? We can start with taking a moment in our busy day to acknowledge ourselves for what we give and receive, sow and reap.
Then the goddess can continue to produce, support and create and the cycle can be renewed.
The theme of returning to ourselves, our truth and renewing our energy by conversing with our inner, deepest self or soul is what I shall be sharing on my Autumn Weekend Retreat.

where through the stories in Women Who Run With The Wolves, we can access that often faint sound or song which reverberates in us. With the support of movement, expressive art and ritual we can bring is to consciousness to honour it and thereby ourself.
