There’s hope! When February arrives, and the days are lengthening, we can feel the expectation and anticipation of Spring with its promise of new life. The festival of lights and the waking of natures slumber, was held on February 1st, as Imbolc. It was the Celtic festival honouring goddess Brigit, and is also the return of Persephone from the Underworld, which became in the Christian tradition honouring of St Bride and of Candlemas on February 2nd.
The quintessential flower of this period is the snowdrop (in the UK), the first flower to peep out of the ground, whilst in the trees we hear more singing of birds. This helps to wake up our senses to the New in Nature and in our Life.
Seeds are busy preparing for the burst of growth, but as yet are still germinating.
So what can we listen into in ourself that could start to grow? To blossom and fruit at a later stage.
Where do we wish to place our energy?
Are we able to be patient in this time, tending to what is to grow or change?
In our ‘results now’ culture it can be hard to honour the cycle of life, death, rebirth and the creative cycle.
